Does it live up to the hype AND how does it perform on mature skin?
So I admit that I gave in to all the hype around this highlighter and had to try it – Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Champagne Pop. It was hard to resist as I love highlighters but have difficulty finding one that looks “natural” if a highlighter can look natural on me. I also have difficulty with ones that have a lot of fallout as that transfers on my skin as a cloud and then finds its way to areas I do NOT want to highlight (you know the lines and crevices that are continuing to emerge under my eyes). So how did this perform?
First of all, the outer packaging is beautiful! I do love packaging but then again when you see beautiful packaging, it raises your expectations for the product, does it not? Inside the box, you find typical Becca powder (reminds me of the old TV show “Lost in Space”) container. These you either love or hate? I am not as fond of them but that is not a problem yet… Inside is what is awesome! The powder is beautiful to the eye! Definitely fall out and dust in the containers so heed care if taking this with you while traveling! This also sent up warning flags to me – will it create that dust cloud as I apply it?
First step – applied on the back of my hand – it was beautiful! Wow! First step to falling in love with it. Now for the true test as I do not plan to wear highlighter on my hand: application on my face. I used a fan brush and delicately applied to the tops of my cheekbones. It was gorgeous! I LOVED the color on my complexion. It was not too white as I have found with Becca’s Moonlight Shimmering Skin Perfecter and not as “pinky” as the Rose Gold Shimmering Skin Perfecter. Thumbs up for color on my skin tone! Next and a very important one for me and for my passion (finding beauty products that continue to work for women as they mature): Does it work for my mature skin especially since I am applying this so close to my aged eye area (does that sound any better than lines under my eyes?). Okay…this looked good but not great in the lighting in my room but later when I went outside in the daylight it hit bottom. The beautiful powder in all its glory had found a nice hang out in my (not so fine) lines under my eyes and dry patches in the outer corners of my eyes. Ugh….so sad!
Overall, this powder is gorgeous! Thumbs up to Jacklyn Hill and Becca! Does it work for me and potentially others with more mature skin? Probably not unless you can control where you apply it and make sure it does not migrate to areas where you do not want glow. I am so sad about this because I ADORED the color. Maybe I could find a way to keep it only where I want it? Any suggestions? The other thing that I have to consider is that this is pricey ($38), and I have other highlighters that I like (Laura Mercier Baked Radiance and the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer – see photos below.
So here are my final ratings. What do you think? Have you tried it?
