Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette

It is hot and it is amazing! The NEW remix eye shadow palette by Kat Von D – Mi Vida Loca (My Crazy Life) Remix Eye Shadow Palette. An incredible assortment of 24 shadows (matte and shimmery) for $59. Click here for a link

This palette features 24 eye shadows in the following colors:

  • Muse (lilac purple),
  • Echo (purple glitter),
  • Dark Wave (deep navy),
  • Synth (electric blue),
  • Hyperballad (sea blue),
  • Lemmy (grass green),
  • Misfit (kelly green),
  • Vinyl (neon green),
  • Legend (golden yellow),
  • Fran (deep mustard yellow),
  • Analogue (burnt orange),
  • Harpsichord (metallic bronze),
  • Rewind (aubergine),
  • Destroyer (bright strawberry),
  • Swoon (fuchsia),
  • Love (shimmery rose),
  • Anthem (purple),
  • Vox (chocolate brown),
  • Moulder (butter yellow),
  • Noble (nude),
  • Skulls (iridescent pearl),
  • Black Metal (matte black),
  • Lyric (white pearl),
  • Strutter (taupe)

Beyond the beautiful colors, what do I think about the palette?  Well, it is amazing but may be a bit outside my comfort zone!  I love neutrals, browns, brick colors, and some plums (deep ones), but this has some colors that are probably not going to work for me.  I will definitely give it a try to use them however!  The shadows themselves are right on par with what you expect from Kat Von D – smooth, blendable, but with some fallout in the tray.  The pigment is perfect.  The one that did not transfer well was such a dark purple (Echo) that I was glad it did not layer too heavily!

On the down side, the packaging is heavy duty cardboard, so I am not sure about its durability.  It also is rather large and would never travel with me.  I also had a tough time finding a place to store it!

In the end, I will highly recommend this palette to anyone who likes to be creative and appreciates the colorful assortment offered!  The shadows are wonderful.

What do you all think? Will you be purchasing this palette? It is out of stock right now but should be back – fingers crossed! A holiday mix of vibrant colors and a few neutrals.

Here is my YouTube video where you can see the swatches and view one of my eye shadow looks created with the palette – very unlike me with purples!

Birchbox Unboxing | My first one!

My very first Birchbox!

In case you are not familiar with Birchbox, it is a monthly beauty subscription box that sends five  beauty or grooming samples each month.  As with other subscription boxes, you complete a profile first that is then used to match products. This box is typically $10 a month, but you can get reduced prices at times (reviewing products, adding subscribers, etc.).  In fact, if you use the link below to sign up, you get $5 off your first box (it is easy to cancel when you want).  I also get some kudos for you using my link so do keep that in mind!  Click here for the link (and thanks!).

As I mentioned, I have had Ipsy glambag boxes for several months (click here to go to my recent review), but this is my first Birchbox – EXCITING!  So here is what I got this month:

Benefit Cosmetics – Giveme Brow in Light Medium – I already use and love thumb_IMG_0295_1024this product – a brow mascara – and adored this small travel sized sample!  Yea!

Dear Clark – Volumizing Tonic – This is a nice sizedthumb_IMG_0293_1024 sample since you typically do not use much at once but nothing extra special.  In the words, I have a few volumizing products that I use and this did not stand out in any way but it is a good travel size.

dr. brandt – pores no more cleanser – This is a nice cleanser that leaves my skin feeling tightened up and ready for makeup.  I am not sure that it is great for removing makeup but good for first thing in the morning.

Harvey Prince – Hello – Love the scent of this spritzer!  It is described as being a thumb_IMG_0296_1024cheerful citrus and floral blend.  I am terrible at describing scents but it did make me happy!

ModelCo Ultra Long-lasting Lipstick in Smitten – This is a very nice feeling lipstick – moisturizing almost but not gooey.  The color is a bit bright for me, but I still wear it a bit because I like the way it feels!

That wraps up my (first) Birchbox for this month.  I was very happy with what I received and will keep my subscription going (at least for a few more months).

Did you receive a subscription box this month?  If so, which one, what did you receive, and were you happy?

More on this next month!

Here is my YouTube video of the unboxing – please sub while you are there too – Thanks so much!

Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze and Glow Review

So the minute you see “Charlotte Tilbury” you may be thinking of the price tag associated with her products, but hopefully you also think of the quality of the products.  I thought of that too and this is the first of my high – high end purchases that I have made.  So is it worth it?  What do I think?

First, here the description of the Filmstar Bronze & Glow ($68) from the Charlotte Tilbury website:

This is a secret that silver screen sirens have kept to themselves for years – and once I share it – so will you! With FILMSTAR BRONZE & GLOW you can slim, sculpt, shorten, trim and highlight your features. It’s amazing what clever shading and highlighting tricks can do to your facial framework – it’s an illusion that I use all the time, particularly for red carpet scrutiny, and my clients can’t get enough of it. Take what you were born with and maximize your assets with FILMSTAR BRONZE & GLOW!

• The bronzer is the perfect universal blend of pearl and pigment to contour features and mimic a sun-kissed complexion.

• The highlighter is built up from a golden base that flatters any skin tone, and uses Light Flex Technology to capture light and radiate it out for a luminous complexion.

• Colour-rich pigments are rolled into elastomer pearls that smooth & buff the skin for excellent blendability & perfect color uniformity.

Another quote describes this pair of products as “fool proof.”  I have to admit that I often fall for these types of descriptions – beauty in a quick and easy step that cannot be messed up!  Now the question hangs in the air – is it fool proof?  Does it look as good as stated above?  Will I be sad about having spend this type of money on it?

First of all, it is lovely!  The packaging is gorgeous and feels very fancy.  It does not stop there either.  When you open the duo, you are treated to a beautiful pairing of colors!  Upon review, however, you may wonder if the colors will even work of you as they seem so light – granted I purchased the Light to Medium duo.  As you can see in the swatches below, the bronzer barely shows up at all on my arm, although my arm is quite a bit darker than my face.  The consistency of the powders are amazing – so soft and blendable!  They just glide on the skin!  No, they actually melt into your skin!  I can see how they say they are foolproof because they are definitely not harsh colors!

So do they pack the punch that you would expect from a high-high end product?  For me, yes they do because I really wanted an every day bronzer and highlighter that I can use and not have to think too much about in its application.  In other words, I wanted fool proof, and I got it!  This duo will definitely make it to my everyday makeup routine!  The bronzer is a soft color that does not produce harsh lines (on my skin) but seems to just become one with my skin.  The highlighter, on the other hand, glows but without harsh sparkles.  Definitely not a “I can see you” highlighter but a more subtle but definitely there highlighter. As you can see, this is a no-brainer duo.  You could almost use this in your sleep and not look odd or out of place, but I would not suggest applying any makeup product in your sleep!

Here are my ratings for it:

Ratings Image

Of course, price is a big piece of this “should I buy” decision!  I feel it is worth it as there are two products in one, and they are amazing products!  However, you may choose to skip this product if: 1) you are on tight budge; 2) you want a bigger impact from your bronzer and highlighter; or 3) your skin tone is well outside the range of mine or of the one that would work for the medium to dark version.

By the way, I have heard that the Charlotte Tilbury blushes are amazing…

So…let me know what you think!  Here is a video review and demo of the pair.  I hope you like it and find it informative!

Ipsy Glambag August 2015

Ipsy August 2015 THUMBNAIL

So how was my Ipsy Glambag for August (2015)?  Here is what I got this month:

Here are the products I received this month and some quick thoughts:

  • Doucce Ultra Precision Eye Liner in Black – http://www.doucce.com/?p=140 – $20
    • This eye liner is actually quite nice and lasts all day with no smudges!  I am pleasantly surprised!
  • Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Oil Treatment – http://goo.gl/5M27LC – $8.99
    • Typical Argan oil – nothing special.
  • Marsk Pro Line Eye Shadow Brush – http://marskcosmetics.com/?p=262 – $26
    • This is a super soft brush, but I have been having trouble finding a good use for it.  I will keep trying but so far it is teasing me because it is so soft!  I have to find a good use for it!
  • AILA Cosmetics Luxury Nail Lacquer in ‘Mister Pookies’  – https://goo.gl/oy3tP7 – $17
    • Such a pretty fall color!
  • Hikari Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Merlot – http://www.hikaricosmetics.com/?p=2506 – $13
    • This is such a pretty color but is too vibrant for me and really pulls the ruddiness out in my skin.  So pretty but will sit in my donate or give away pile.

So what are my thoughts this month?  I love the bag!!  It is so cute and different.  The most liked product is the eye liner which is a surprise.  The brush is so nice but basically not finding its place in my makeup routine yet.  The argan oil is very nice and a compact container.  The polish will definitely be worn this fall (or sooner)!  I love the color!  As for the lip gloss – such a pretty color but I cannot get it to work for me.  Very sad about that part!

How did you all do?  If you are interested in ordering an Ipsy Glambag, I have a link below.  Ipsy is a subscription service that costs $10 a month to receive 5 products and a (usually very cute) bag with potential to reduce that price if you review products, etc.  You can cancel at any time which also is nice, and I have done that in the past when I knew that I was going to be too busy for the monthly box or bag!

Here is the Ipsy Sign Up Link: http://tinyurl.com/prcs8wt  Also wanted to let you know that I do get credit from you using this link.

If you want to see my video review, click on the video below.  Also please sub to me on YouTube!  I am trying to build my YouTube family and reach my goal of 100 subscribers by the end of August.

Thanks all!  I look forward to hearing about the products that you received!

Acne, Hyperpigmentation, Wrinkles – Oh My! My skin care routine to counter these villians!

My Skin Care Routine

I have a feeling that I am not the only one who deals with a range of issues keeping his or her complexion from being flawless (if that is even a worthy goal).  Over the years, I have battled most of the common skin issues including cystic acne that left awful scars and sometimes even craters in my skin.  On top of that medications the medications I was taking left my skin so sensitive to sun damage that even when my skin did clear up a bit, I had muddy looking patches on my cheeks from hyper pigmentation remnants.  Fast forward a few more years, and fine lines (aka wrinkles) started making their presence known.  Over the course of the past 20 years, I have been on antibiotics, creams, Retin A, Accutance (3 times!), and countless over the counter products!

Now that you know my dermatological history, where am I now?  Presently, I still deal with some cystic acne and take prescription meds for it (Spirolactane) and use Retin A every other day to counter the scarring that I get when those flair ups arise.  My skin care routine, however, focuses on the use a few products that in combination seem to work really well to address all my needs!

Here is a list of what I am using:

In the Morning:

In the Evening:

  • Simple Micellar Facial Cleanser Water  – http://goo.gl/VkV4SN  – $6.99
  • Clarisonic Mia 2 – http://goo.gl/4tZHk8 – $149
  • I use Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar – http://goo.gl/Ykz7qT  – $2.66 for 4 bars with my Clarisonic!  It works so well!  Just wet the brush on the Clarisonic and with it turned off, rub the brush on the bar of soap to create a nice foam.  Love this combo!
  • Origins Starting Over Eye Cream – http://goo.gl/C0Lfa1 – $41
  • Clinique Take the Day Off eye makeup remover – http://goo.gl/qWTK1p – $19
  • If I am not using my Retin A (every other night), I use Paula’s Choice RESIST SUPER ANTIOXIDANT CONCENTRATE SERUM –  http://goo.gl/Bfv8Fv – $36
  • Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer – http://goo.gl/kL4bUi – $26

If needed for breakouts:

Does anyone use any of these products? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation Review

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

I know – another day, another foundation!  Why do we (or I) always keep searching for the next best foundation when we already have two or three that hit Holy Grail status?  I cannot answer that question, but I can say that I am so thankful that I have kept looking!  More on that later.

One of the newest foundations to hit the shelves of Sephora and other beauty retailers is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible foundation. Purported to be an invisible foundation that leaves your skin feeling natural but looking beautiful all within a medium coverage.  It has some new ingredients in it, which I will not bore you with (actually I do not understand the chemical properties of the new additions so I do not want to mis-speak), but I will provide you this link to review it for yourself.  What I can say is directly from the product marketing:

Developed specifically for the film and TV industry’s most advanced technology, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation creates a naturally flawless complexion—on and off camera. Completely invisible under the latest, super-focused 4k lens, this revolutionary foundation features uniquely-coated pigments that provide medium coverage with a lightweight texture that looks just like skin. Long-lasting with a natural-looking finish, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation is formulated with hyaluronic spheres for time-released hydration that ensures comfortable wear on all skin types. Now available in an expanded range of 40 shades to match all skintones, Ultra HD is the perfect everyday foundation for a flawless complexion—and an unretouched life.

Doesn’t it sound wonderful!  Are you already set to take the testing it out plunge?  Well, I was!  I used the MFE HD foundation before this new improvement, and although I liked it, I did not LOVE it.  But, I did like it enough to venture off to Sephora and get some samples and then a bottle of my own.

Important note: If you have worn the previous MFE HD foundation, your color code will be different with this product.  Fortunately, they have made it very easy to know which code matches up to which new code (several tables available and the old and new codes are written conspicuously on the top of the box).

Okay…All this build up…did it impress me?

Do you see me smiling?  Wonder why?  It is because I LOVE this foundation!  It is lightweight, covers wonderfully (but not too much to make you look like a solid piece of clay), blends easily, and last all day without transforming into anything odd or sinister on my skin!  See my ratings below.

Ratings Image

Should you run out and try it?  Well, YES!  I cannot speak as to how it will work for you if you have different skin than myself (normal to dry with some oiliness around my t-zone; hyper pigmentation scars, and occasional acne); however, I have a suspicion it will work very well on most skin types.  I just loved how this foundation applies (prefer my Morphe M435 but the Beauty Blender does an awesome job too), covers, and stays fresh all day.  I have worn it with and without primer but do prefer some primer just because…

Let me know what you all think as well!

Lorac Pro to Go – Review, Demo, and is it travel worthy?

Lorac Pro to Go thumbnail

Lorac Pro to Go palette ($38) holds a pretty combination of blush (2), bronzer (1), and eye shadows (3 matte and 3 shimmery).  It has a handy way of folding up so that you can open the shadows, blushes and bronzer or have it all open at once.

thumb_IMG_4146_1024 thumb_IMG_4141_1024thumb_IMG_4142_1024

The eye shadows span a neutral range:Pearl (Shimmer), Chai (Shimmer), Mink (Sparkle), Shell (Matte), Café (Matte), and Black (Matte).  See the swatches below:

Lorac Pro to Go Shadow Swatches

While the matte bronzer aligns well with two blushes: shimmery coral and a matte pink.

Lorac Pro to Go cheek Swatches

So how do they perform?  What do I think?  Do they play well with mature skin?  Should I buy it?  Is it travel worthy?

So many questions!  So, what do I think…  I love the eye shadows in the palette!  They are beautiful colors that transfer well, have only minimal fall out, and blend so nicely (just not as buttery as for example Make Up Geek shadows – but still really nicely).  The colors leave lots of room for creativity even though there are only six colors. I really enjoy blending the shimmery with the matte colors!

As for the bronzer and blushes.  Slightly different review here.  The cheek colors are all nice and bendable but the colors are kind of boring to me.  The blushes are standard pink and coral.  I tend to prefer mixes across colors.  The bronzer is very nice as well but just not anything fabulous.  It does apply well and seems to be a suitable color that will work for most skin colors; however, when I put it on it did not make me go “wow”!  Good – maybe very good – but not amazing.

As for working for mature skin – no problems at all.  The products all blend well and given the minimal fall out, they do not stray into off limits territory (under eye lines).

Is it travel worthy.  First, would I be happy taking just this palette for my cheeks and eyes?  Yes, I would but if i was traveling for more than two days, I may want to bring another cheek color.  The palette itself is constructed so well, and I love the way it opens up!  It also comes with two very small brushes, but I found those to be useless to me.  This compact also is rather rugged so I think it could handle some rough and tumble in the baggage claim.  All in all – yes!  I would travel with this especially because I LOVE the eye shadows!!

Here is my overall rating:

Contouring, Brightening, and Highlighting – Does it Make a Difference?

Half and Half Thumbnail

Does highlighting, brightening, and contouring really make a difference in how you look?

That was the question I wanted to answer.  To do this, I opted to do a “half face” look with half of my faced being adorned with all the extra goodies and the other with only typical blush.

Here is what I used on all of my face:

Foundation: Laura Mercier Silk Crème Oil Free Photo Edition Foundation – $48 – http://goo.gl/HPPwJi
Powder: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder – $37 – http://goo.gl/brjoca
Blush: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour blush in Glisten – http://goo.gl/YHA9K – $28

Shadow: Tarte Energy Noir Clay Palette Unearthed blush – http://goo.gl/kvPhup – $38
Shadow Primer: Mac Paint Pot in Painterly – http://goo.gl/QyYUWh – $22
Mascara: Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Waterproof – http://goo.gl/0vp44j – $8.99
Brows: Urban Decay Brow Tamer in Neutral Brown – http://goo.gl/TjUA2C – $20; Nyx Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe – – http://goo.gl/QVYbtE – $9.99; Milani Brow & Eye Highlighter in 01 – http://goo.gl/yPJZ3X – $6.99

Lipgloss: bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Maverick – http://goo.gl/rovQJH – $18

Here are the extra goodies I added to the left side view of my face (your left):

Bronzer: Nars Blush Bronzer Duo in Laguna and Orgasm – http://goo.gl/yLt9Hz – $42

Contour:  Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette – http://goo.gl/i3E5rJ – $40

Highlighterthe balm Mary-Lou Manizer – http://goo.gl/OTjPIY – $24

Brightening under eyes: Under Eye Cream: Pixi Color Corrector Cream – http://goo.gl/91tU4a – $12; Under Eye Powder: Besame Brightening Violet Powder – http://goo.gl/qBxL4f – $22

And here is the result – Can you see a difference?  Is the extra time and money invested in products worth it?  Or is the extra pampering that results from you applying the products the underlying benefit?

What do you think?  Do you see a difference?  I look forward to hearing your thoughts and comments and then I will add mine!

Here is my video of the entire process.

New! Urban Decay Brow Tamer Review!

UD Brow Tamer Thumbnail

Okay, so who else has bad brow days?  Who else also dedicates too much time to their brows for less than optimal outcomes?  Me!!  So, in walks a new product that I was fortunate to snag right away (from the Urban Decay website) after stalking Ulta and Sephora waiting for it to arrive in storesIMG_4046.  Why – well I set that up for you.  My brows were taking too long to tame and were not looking as I had hoped.

Now for the review…  I decided to go for the Brow Tamer (mascara-like product) rather than the pencil (Brow  Beater) since I have a favorite brow pencil (Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz that is just not playing nicely right now and is really too dark – I need Taupe).  What does the product boast?  Urban Decay claims that this product will tame even the most challenging brows and leave them fuller and more polished looking without cruchiness.  The brush is a serial microfiber brush.  I ordered the Brow Tamer in Neutral Brown.

IMG_4048Did it work?  Yes, yes it did!!  In fact, I love it!  It provides nice coverage but not too gooky that the product transfers to your skin.  The brush is wonderful – not too small and not too bulky.  It was so fast!  I did fill in a bit with a pencil (this time I used a Nyx Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe) and the end result was exactly what I wanted!  I finished the look with the Milani Brow & Eye Highlighter – not a step I do every day but I was having fun playing!

Here is my overall rating for the Urban Decay Brow Tamer – I am sure you are not surprised!
